Terms of use

These terms apply when you use travelpointsmath.com, including its guides, calculators, transfer matrix and Points Value Index. “We”, “us” and “our” mean the business that runs this site. By using the site, you accept these terms. This version is effective September 27, 2026.

What Travel Points Math is, and what it is not

Travel Points Math is an independent publication that works out whether points or cash is the better way to pay for a real booking, and shows the arithmetic. It is not a bank, a card issuer, a travel agency or a booking site. We do not book travel, transfer points, sell points or look at your accounts.

Not financial advice

Our guides and calculators are general information and arithmetic based on published program rules. They are not financial, legal, tax, credit or investment advice, and they are not a recommendation to apply for a credit card, open an account, carry a balance or transfer points. Whether a card or a redemption suits you depends on your finances and plans, which we do not know. For a decision that affects your credit or your money beyond a single booking, speak to a qualified professional.

No ties to banks, card issuers or loyalty programs

We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or paid by any bank, card issuer, airline, hotel group or loyalty program. We earn nothing when you apply for a card, transfer points or book travel. We do not use affiliate links, we do not publish sponsored content, and we carry no advertising. Program, card and company names on this site belong to their owners and are used only to identify them.

Program rules change without notice

Award prices and availability, taxes and fees, transfer ratios, transfer bonuses, posting times and cancellation rules change often and without notice. Each guide and the Points Value Index show the date their inputs were checked, and examples are labeled as illustrative. The airline, hotel or card program’s own website is the only source that counts when you book. Most point transfers cannot be reversed, so confirm the award seat, the price and the transfer terms with the program before you move any points.

Calculators and the Points Value Index

Each calculator shows its inputs and its formula. The main one is value per point = (cash fare − award taxes and fees) ÷ points required, compared against the baseline the page states. A result is only as good as the numbers you enter, and it is an estimate, not a quote or a promise of what a program will give you. The Points Value Index is computed from each issuer’s own published rates and transfer ratios on the date it shows, with its method and limits on the page.

The calculators, the index and all content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.

Using the site

You may read, print and share pages, and use the calculators for your own bookings. You may quote short passages and cite our figures if you link to the page you quote; the Points Value Index shows how to cite a dated snapshot. Please do not:

  • copy or republish whole guides, the index tables or substantial parts of the site, or present our work as your own;
  • scrape or request pages at a rate that slows the site for others;
  • try to get into parts of the site or its systems that are not public, or interfere with their security;
  • use the site to break the law or to harm other people.

The text, calculators, illustrations and design of Travel Points Math belong to us or to the people who licensed them to us.

Links to other websites

Guides link to airline, hotel, bank and card issuer pages and other sources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their offers or how they handle your information.

Limitation of liability

Travel Points Math is free to use. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, such as a transfer you cannot undo, an award seat that disappears, a devalued balance or a higher fare, arising from your use of the site, its calculators or its content. Our total liability for any claim about the site is limited to US$100. Nothing in these terms limits any liability or consumer right that the law does not allow to be limited.

Changes to the site and these terms

We may change, add or remove guides and calculators at any time. When we change these terms, we update this page and its effective date. The version on this page when you use the site applies to that use.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. If you have a complaint, write to us first and we will try to settle it within 30 days. You can always use the small claims court where you live.
